Privacy Policy

Behind the Beauty for iPhone & iPad · Effective October 17, 2026

The short version: Behind the Beauty has no accounts, no servers, no analytics and no advertising. Everything you enter stays on your device and, if you subscribe to Pro and have iCloud enabled, in your own private iCloud database that only you can access. We never see it.

Who we are

Information the app stores

To do its job, the app stores the information you choose to enter:

Your profile — an optional display name.
Client records — names, contact details, hair profile, consultation notes, color formulas and photos you take of your clients' results.
License & CEU records — license numbers, expiration dates, continuing-education entries and any certificate files you attach.
Inventory — product names, barcodes and stock levels.
Payments you record — service, amount, tip, tax and the method used. The app never handles card numbers: when a client pays through Venmo, Cash App, PayPal or a payment link, that happens in that provider's app under its own privacy policy, and we only store the amount you mark as paid.
Staff & time clock — team members' names, roles, optional hourly rates, clock-in/out times and breaks. PINs are stored only as salted hashes.
Business branding — a logo and business name you choose to display in the app.
Settings — such as App Lock, launch animation and completed tutorials.

All of this is stored only on your device. We do not transmit it to any server operated by us or by a third party.

iCloud sync (Pro)

If you subscribe to Pro and are signed in to iCloud, the app uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your records between your own devices. Data is stored in your private iCloud database, encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple, and is not accessible to us. Client photos and attached documents stay on the device they were added to. You can stop sync at any time by turning off iCloud for the app in iOS Settings. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Camera, photos and Face ID

Camera is used only when you choose to scan a product barcode, photograph a client's result, or run Hair Scan. Images are processed on-device and saved only if you keep them.
Face ID / Touch ID is used only for the optional App Lock feature and to protect owner-only areas such as staff settings and timesheets. Biometric data never leaves Apple's Secure Enclave and is never available to the app; the app cannot identify staff members by face.

Notifications

License-renewal and CEU reminders are scheduled locally on your device. We do not operate a push-notification server.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive no payment details. Apple may share anonymised, aggregate sales information with us. See Apple's Privacy Policy.

Your clients' information

You are responsible for collecting and storing your clients' information lawfully and for obtaining any consent required in your jurisdiction, including for photographs. The app gives you the tools to keep that information private: on-device storage, optional App Lock and the ability to delete any record at any time.

Deleting your data

Delete individual clients, licenses or inventory items from within the app. Deleting the app removes all local data. To remove synced data from iCloud, go to iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage → Behind the Beauty → Delete.

Children

Behind the Beauty is intended for licensed beauty professionals and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the effective date above and, for material changes, note it in the app's release notes.
